City villa

The planned shape of the building, due to the binding neighborhood and the modernist heritage of Gdynia including the district of Orłowo, is inspired by the modernism of the interwar period. It refers both in terms of ideology and in form and silhouette.

The building directly or indirectly refers to five principles of “modern architecture according to Le Corbusier”, i.e., it has a flat roof used as a viewing terrace, an open plan covered with ceilings of considerable span, extensive, large windows indirectly referring to the “free facade” principle, ribbon windows, and partial elevation of the structure above ground level.

The planned silhouette refers to the features defined at the beginning of the conceptual work, namely: a relatively compact, uniform silhouette enclosing extensive floor plans within the smallest possible outline, modest finishes with high-quality materials, and a clear and simple functional layout.

The design assumes that the house will still be a delicately sculpted white block cut by glazing, set on a pedestal finished with stone cladding.

The white surface of the walls will be covered with plaster with visible traces of troweling and will be painted with snow-white paint. The color composition consisting of almost pure white block resembling a cuboid (in plan view of a square), graphite details of steel and aluminum elements complement the neutral gray color of the concrete and stone cladding from which the basement will be made. This foundation, pedestal, is also supposed to evoke shipyard, industrial associations with shipyard ramps or a port quay on which a white residential block is placed.
