Modern Barn in a Gable Layout
The designed shape of the building is a compact form reminiscent of a “modern barn.” There is a clear division between the ground floor and the upper floor, evident in both the exterior finishing materials and the form and outline of the two floors. The upper floor is a simplified form covered by a gable roof, appearing as an isosceles trapezoid in plan. The ground floor, in contrast, features a sculpted outline that, through its varied contour, provides protection against excessive sunlight or rain for garden exits, large glazed areas, and the house entrance.
The ground floor is distinguished by a light shade of brick cladding, with brick tiles forming the base for the upper floor, which contrasts with the dark finish of both the facade and the roof. Additionally, apart from the color contrast of the light base and graphite upper floor, there is a contrast in the facade divisions: the ground floor has horizontal articulation, while the upper floor, with its cladding boards, features vertical articulation.
Moreover, the upper floor, with its aforementioned finish of slats or stained wooden boards, is intended to evoke the simplified form of a barn—an archetypal, simple, unified shape.
The house’s form aims to fit into the context in such a way as to maximize the potential and advantages of the plot, positioning itself parallel to the plot boundaries while also forming a part of the street frontage. Hence, the ridge is angled relative to the building’s longer axis but positioned at a right angle to the street axis. Thus, despite the longer walls of the house being set at a non-perpendicular angle to the boundary with the road plot, the house remains in a gable layout.
The upper floor is covered by a symmetrical gable roof with a slope of 45 degrees.
